In this presentation, we will discuss multiple strategies for keeping students engaged, practicing, and performing over the summer. These ideas will be useful for private studio teachers and school educators. We will focus on setting up a summer lesson program, creating special projects, building festivals, and more!

Martelé and the Mastery of Sound Production
Galamian wrote that martelé is “one of the most fundamental of all strokes, and its mastery will benefit the right-hand technique well beyond the limit of this particular bowing.” In this session, we will explore the myriad possibilities the martelé stroke offers for developing a beautiful tone. From the first bow strokes to advanced repertoire, to shifting, vibrato, and set up, participants will learn about the long-lasting physical and tonal benefits of the martelé stroke.

#100daysofpractice
Description: If you type in #100daysofpractice into your Instagram search box, you will find thousands of posts uniting musicians in their efforts to support and motivate each other. #100daysofpractice was created by violinist Hilary Hahn, who posted daily videos of her own practicing over 100 consecutive days and shared her personal insights. This session will cover the beneficial aspects of using social media for you and your students and will provide healthy social media guidelines.
Join us in the beautiful Mabry Concert Hall at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN (map) for a Suzuki play-down! We will all join together to play selections from the Suzuki violin, viola, cello, and brass repertoire. A teacher social will follow.
Registration for this event is free and required. Both MTSA member and non-member students, parents, and teachers are invited to register and attend. Use the button at left to register, and then you will receive the repertoire list and further details about the event by email.
Attending teachers (including violas & cellos) are invited to submit repertoire recommendations based on anticipated attendance from your studio to fred@sienkiewicz.org. Please also let us know if you would like to lead a piece! Likewise if you are a Suzuki teacher for a different instrument and would like to participate, please reach out and we will make all efforts to include your studio.
